Amended return Questions (5015 submission error)

We sometimes get queries that look like these:

Hi,

I'm trying to submit a return to HMRC, but it is giving me an submission error message, saying that the return has already been submitted, and to send an amended return.  The error codes it gives is 3001 and 5015.

The amended box is greyed out.  How can I get it to mark the return as amended?

What the submission errors mean

 

Error Code Error Message Translation
3001 The submission of this document has failed due to departmental specific business logic in the Body tag There is a problem with the return, which is stopping it from being filed. See further error codes for details
5015 A submission for the user and tax year has been successfully made. If amendments are required you will need to make an amended submission A previous attempt to submit the return may have been interrupted, or was filed by another agent.

 

How to submit an amended return if the amended box is greyed out

 

  • Open the affected return in Tax 2009
  • Go to Tools // Options // Configure
  • Select the Filing Options tab
  • Tick the option Override Amended Flag
  • Click OK
  • Head to the Submit screen
  • Tick the Amended box, and submit the return as normal
