Software Satisfaction Awards 2011

We're delighted to have been short-listed for the third year running in the Tax category for Tax Professional. Thank you all for your votes, we really couldn't do it without you!

We'll be at the awards ceremony on October 18th at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square, which is being hosted this year by Alistair Campbell, which should be an interesting (and nervous) night.  We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a victory!

Free Company Law seminar

We’re hosting a free seminar in Oldham on September 28th, designed to give you an expert assessment of the implications of Companies Act 2006 on your clients, and we would love you to come.  Our guest speaker, Liz Meehan, is Operations Manager at Company Registrations Online, and she’ll be sharing some of her extensive experience with you.

During this half-day event, Liz will be covering a host of topics, including changes to incorporations, new features in electronic filing, changes to minutes, resolutions and Articles of Association, as well as some new procedures introduced by Companies House, such as Administrative Restoration, and handling reduction of share capital.  Company law can be notoriously tricky, especially as a secondary part of the compliance work you take on for your clients.  We’re excited to be able to share some of the specialist knowledge that Liz has accumulated, to help you protect your clients.

We’ll be providing a pack of documentation to all attendees on the day, which should prove useful for your CPD evidence; the event should qualify for 3 hours of CPD time.  If you can’t make it to the seminar in Oldham, we’ll also make this pack available; just call us on 0161 484 3500, and ask to speak to Helen Whelan.

You may be aware that Companies House have been increasingly prompt in clamping down on late returns, with an upswing in moves to strike off companies who fail to fulfil their obligations.  As part of the seminar, Liz and members of the Keytime team will be on hand to discuss CompanyView, the fully managed, no fuss company secretarial service offered to all Keytime customers.  If you are unable to attend the seminar, but would like to learn more about how we can look after all your company secretarial work for just £2 per month per client, please call us on 0161 484 3500.

Future Releases

Over the next couple of updates, we are going to start rolling out some changes to how the software works behind the scenes, which will allow us to bring in some oft-requested features, including more robust security and access rights, and enhanced privacy options in all the programs. The first steps will be arriving with you shortly, which will allow you to archive clients you have acted for in the past, but who you no longer represent.

One of the big benefits of this change is that we can dramatically simplify the year end process; all none-archived clients will just roll forward into the next tax year automatically, removing the current multi-step process of selecting the previous year tax return, double-clicking, then choosing whether to bring forward all returns or just that one.  We'll be publishing more details about the changes are they get closer.

iXBRL - Error 3314 (duplicate fact value)

HMRC submission error 3314 (duplicate fact value) is the number one iXBRL related issue that we encounter.  Here's some background on the error, and what you can do to resolve it:

What the error looks like

Error Raised By : ChRIS
Error Code : 3314
Error Type : business
Error Message : Inconsistent duplicate fact values (uk-gaap:TangibleFixedAssets)
Error Location : Accounts

What the error message means

When translated into English, the error message is telling us that we have two or more figures in the accounts that are different, but
share the same iXBRL tag (in the example above, it is the TangibleFixedAssets tag).  Quite often, the difference is due to rounding, as with this example:

In the Notes to the accounts:
Net book values At DD MMM 2009 : 1356

On the Balance Sheet:
Tangible Fixed Assets 2009 value was 1355

How to remove the error

To fix the submission error, simply make an adjustment so that the values match.  If you are having difficulty with finding the error, please contact support, providing the full text of the error message from HMRC, and a backup copy of the affected accounts.
