Hello.

Winter is coming, and with it a time of year that can be most unkind to accountants. For this support update, I've put together a selection of brief articles and notices to help you prepare for January.

If there is anything else we can do to help, let me know in the comments below.

New features

Here's some of the new features that we've released recently, or which are coming soon:

You can now create iXBRL ready accounts for companies limited by guarantee in Accounts Production.

Reattach accountsAccounts Production

You can now quickly reattach accounts to Corporation Tax without overwriting the information entered in CT.

Keeping up to date

Letting you know that an update is available for the software can be tricky - emails are remarkably fragile for something we all rely on! In updates this year, we've made the software a bit smarter about letting you know that there is a download available.

We've also been publishing release notes here on the support website. We highly recommend that you subscribe to our release notes forum, which will automatically send you an email whenever we make an update. This method is the best way to keep up to date with what we are doing, as your email is explicitly subscribed to receive the email - and you can unsubscribe and resubscribe whenever you want.

Top tip: Subscribing to Forums

One of the useful features of our support forums is the ability to subscribe to receive email updates when a forum (or individual topic) is updated.  This should allow you to easily see when we have posted a new update (by subscribing to the Release Notes forum), or to get an email when the next support newswire is ready, sent to the email address associated with your support account.

Here's a quick walk-through of the steps to subscribe to the announcements forum:

  1. You'll need to login to see the subscribe option - if you've emailed support, you'll have an account already - click login in the top right of the screen
  2. If you know your password, just enter it here and login.  If you don't, but you have emailed support before, click the bottom link, enter your email, and we'll send you a new password.  If you haven't emailed or phoned us to report an issue before, you can create a new account from this page too.
  3. Once you are logged in, visit the announcements forum: http://support.keytime.co.uk/forums/97418-announcements
  4. To the right of the forum title, you should see a subscribe link:
  5. Click the link, and you'll receive an email whenever we update the forum with a new topic
  6. You may also want to add our release notes forum http://support.keytime.co.uk/forums/177790-release-notes

Year End in Corporation Tax

We've had a few queries about the best way to perform a Year End in Corporation Tax recently, so I thought I'd quickly share the way we recommend:

  1. When you have finished processing the information and submitted the return for this period you can then year-end the return which will create a return for the following year.

You don’t have to create a new return each time in Corporation Tax for the same client

  2. In the current year if you go to Period > Year end then this will perform a year-end for this return, carrying forward losses and other relevant information.
  3. When you view your client list you should see that it has created a return for the following year and returns for the previous years remain in the listing.

Satisfaction

A while back, we announced that we would improve how we measure how happy you are with our support.  Recently, we started sending out a very quick follow-up email on some solved tickets, which asks you to rate your satisfaction with our support on that ticket.

We've been very pleased with how many of you have taken the time to let us know how you feel, especially with the optional comments. This feedback has started a number of interesting discussions in the office about how we can improve, as well as giving the support team something to really strive for.

As numbers are interesting, I thought I'd share a few details about what we've discovered so far; we are toying with the idea of making these figures available on an ongoing basis.

The figures

87
were satisfied
5
weren't so sure
94%
satisfaction %
23%
response rate

We've tried to make this as quick and frictionless as possible - if you have any thoughts about how we could make these ratings more useful to you, let me know in the comments.

Free Training

Just a little reminder that we offer short, targeted online training sessions, perfect for refreshing your knowledge of the software before the January rush.  We are offering a free half hour taster session for training booked before December 1st, and taken before December 23rd.  Call us on 0161 484 3500 (option 1, option 1).
