instead of just flagging the client as deleted to be able to remove in total from the client manager and also the various returns

This is an option we debate regularly as the implications are wide and varied. Our preference would be that the record isn't deleted completely but instead is moved into an 'archive' where it can be accessed and resurrected if necessary.

Adding to this: currently you can filter out clients in the Client Search by adding filters from the drop-down menus at the top. A good default for many users would be Current and Active.
This would show records set to Current and Active; ignoring contacts and clients who are marked as Delete or Archived. See screens below:
This search is saved for each user. If you have a number of people logging in you may find it useful to add users in the Maintain Users screen.

Work is currently in progress to add an archive to Client Manager (rather than completely delete), there will be a routine that checks for outstanding time-sheet entries, jobs, communications etc. The feature will also disable the link between the client in Client Manager and any returns/accounts in the modules. The archived flag will also be extended to the modules, so you will be able to flag clients in the modules as 'no longer acting for this client' any client in this state at year end will then not have new returns created for them by the tax year end.
This new routine has been implemented not only to overcome the issue of archiving/deleting clients in Client Manager but also to deliver iimprovements in the year end routine within the Tax modules.
