Changes in this version

  1. Add in Monthly / Weekly / Fortnightly / Lunar (4 Weekly) to an existing payroll database. It is now possible to add a different pay frequency directly into the Payroll
  2. Changes for Female employees moving to Table C.   Amendments have been made to reflect the change in State Pension Age for women so that a warning will now appear if you try to change the NIC table from A to C for a female employee who is to continue working beyond the retirement age before the correct date under the new rules that began at 6 April 2010. The system will also not attempt to make NIC refunds until the employee’s NI category is changed to Table C. An overview of the changes is given below:

Table of female State Pension Age

State Pension Age is being equalised at age 65 for men and women.  The change is being phased in over a 10 year period from 6th April 2010.  After this date the State Pension Age for women will increase.

  • Women born before 6th April 1950 are not affected by the change.
  • Women born between 6th April 1950 and 5th April 1955 will have a State Pension Age which gradually rises from 60 to 65.
  • Women born after 5th April 1955 now have a State Pension Age of 65.

Employee continuing to work beyond State Pension Age

If any employee (regardless of gender) is to continue working beyond retirement age you should never change an employee’s NI category to Table C until you receive an Age Exception Certificate from them which they can obtain as outlined below:

Applying for an Age Exception Certificate if you continue working after State Pension Age

If an individual stays in employment after State Pension Age they can apply to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for an Age Exception Certificate so that they don't pay NICs. They can write to:

HM Revenue & Customs
National Insurance Contributions Office
Evening Work Centre
Benton Park View
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE98 1ZZ
