Common issues in Windows Vista with Pastel & Pervasive

Pastel and Pervasive installs fine with Vista however in some instances you restart your computer, Vista’s strict security policy disables Pervasive and you get Error code 20’s from there on in. The 3 most common issues are:

1.    Error code 20
When getting an error code 20 once you installed Pastel & Pervasive on Windows Vista, you need to change the following settings. Remember that this is what we have found to work so far and will not necessarily solve your issue.

-    Set the access level to full control for the following Pervasive file:
-    Go to C:\PVSW\Bin and look for w3dbsmgr.exe.
-    Right click on this file and select Properties.
-    Click on the Securities tab, and allow all users full control.
-    Turn off the following User Account setting in the Control Panel, only if the first option didn’t solve the issue):
(This will switch off one of the new and important security features in Vista, and is not necessarily the ideal solution)
-    Go to the Control Panel, User Accounts.
-    Select the option “Turn User Account Control on or off”
-    Uncheck the option “Use User Account Control (UAC) to protect your computer”
-    UAC (User Account Control) in Vista.
-    This feature is set in place by Windows Vista to warn a user from running applications in the background which when you launch an application, will give you a pop-up screen to prompt you to allow or disallow the application and causes havoc with not only pervasive but other applications as well.

2.    Runtime Error 75
Apply the same user settings as per Error Code 20 (Point 2) above.

3.    Another Problem that you might encounter is this error:

-    Basically Windows Vista installs with a space for the decimal separator for numbers and a comma for the thousands separator for the currency formats.
-    You need to change this in the Regional Settings menu located in the control panel for them to be the same:

Note the change in name for “Add/Remove Programs”

-    The “Add/Remove Programs” application in the control panel of Windows XP is no more.
-    This has been replaced with the “Programs and Features” application located in the Control panel.
