Finding the data location

First, we need to check the location of the database for the program you are having the problem with.

  • Go to Windows Start, and choose the Run option.
  • If you are using Windows Vista / Windows 7, you should see a search box at the bottom of the Start menu. Type Run, then press Enter.  You should then be shown the Run program.  Double click this.

  • In the dialogue box that pops up, type the the option that matches the program you are using, and press OK, or press Enter.

    Accounts Production:

    keyaccountsv3.ini

    Corporation Tax:

    pscorporationtax.ini

    P11D

    p11d2009.ini

    Tax 2009:

    pstax2009.ini

    Trusts:

    pstrusts2009.ini

  • You should then see a notepad file open up, looking similar to the image below:
  • pstrusts2009.png

The important line is the taxData= line; this shows the location of your database.  Make a note of this location (C:\Program Files\Keytime\Trusts 2009\ in the example above.)

Once you have the data path for each program, you should browse to them using My Computer.  You should find .mdb files within the folder - the exact names are as follows:

Accounts Production:

  • keyaccounts.mdb

Corporation Tax:

  • pscorporation.mdb
  • internet.mdb

P11D

  • psp11d2009.mdb

Tax 2009:

  • pstax2009.mdb

Trusts:

  • pstrusts2009.mdb
warning  Moving the data is not recommended without talking to support first.

If you are moving your data, you will also need to update the taxData= paths to point to the new location, and update the ODBC settings. You can find instructions on updating the ODBC settings in the following article:

ODBC settings.
